The people of IU Speech Disfluency Lab

Principle Investigator: Julie D. Anderson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Julie Anderson is an Associate Professor and Director of the Speech Disfluency Laboratory in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Indiana University. She received her under-graduate degree in sociology/psychology in 1992 and her master's degree in communication disorders in 1996 from the University of Minnesota. In 2002, she obtained her doctorate in speech and hearing sciences from Vanderbilt University. Her research interests include the study of spoken language production, cognitive processes, and fluency development in young children who do and do not stutter. She also has over 20 years of experience assessing and diagnosing preschool children for suspected developmental stuttering.

Graduate Research Assistant: Levi Ofoe

Levi Ofoe is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Indiana University, Bloomington. He received his undergraduate and Master of Philosophy in Linguistics (MPhil) degrees from the University of Ghana. He received his master's degree in speech-language pathology from University of Florida (Gainesville) in 2011. Levi's research interests include the study of spoken language production in children who stutter, the nature of stuttering and multilingualism.

Graduate Research Assistant: Karli Morris

Karli Morris is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Indiana University. She graduated with her B.A. in Communicative Disorders from the University of Alabama in May 2020. In her free time, Karli enjoys reading, practicing yoga, watching football, and spending time with her dog, Lizard.

Undergraduate Honor’s Student: Kayma Livermore

Kayma is a senior at Indiana University studying speech, language and hearing sciences with a minor in counseling and a focus in American Sign Language (ASL). Her honor’s program research focuses on discourse markers in ASL. After graduation, she plans on attending graduate school for a master’s degree in speech-language pathology with hopes of working as a speech-language pathologist in a school setting. She is a member of the Swim Club and is a lifeguard and pool manager at her hometown community center and waterpark. She loves to be with family and friends, cook, and watch different television shows.

Bridget is a sophomore at Indiana University studying speech, language and hearing Sciences with a minor in psychology. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school for speech-language pathology with the intention of working with children. Outside of academics, she loves watching improv shows, running, and spending time with friends and family.

Gabby Ball is a senior at Indiana University studying Cognitive Science with a focus in Linguistics. After graduation, she hopes to pursue her career in research before returning to graduate school. Outside of school, she enjoys being the director of the InMotion Dance Company, yoga, good food, and spending free time with her friends.

Undergraduate Research Assistant: Ben Dance

Benjamin is a junior at Indiana University studying media with a concentration in interactive and digital media. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he intends on attending graduate school for speech-language pathology. He is passionate about helping those in need, particularly those with speech and hearing disabilities. Benjamin’s goal is to use computer technology to find fresh ways of helping those with speech and hearing disabilities and network speech-language pathologists with potential clientele. Benjamin loves working out, listening to music, and watching YouTube videos.

Undergraduate Research Assistant: Hannah Learn

Hannah is a sophomore at Indiana University studying speech, language and hearing sciences and pursuing a minor in youth development. She aspires to become a speech-language pathologist and work with children. In her free time, Hannah is a part of CSF's cycling team and is training to compete in IU's Little 500. She enjoys biking all around Bloomington with her teammates! Hannah also loves riding her three horses at home and going hiking with her border collie, Lucas.

Grace Orzechowski is a sophomore at Indiana University studying speech, language and hearing sciences with a minor in music. She plans on attending graduate school for speech-language pathology with the goal of working with older adults. Grace enjoys singing in Ladies First a Cappella, rollerblading, and spending time with friends and family.

Sloane is currently a junior at Indiana University studying speech, language, and hearing science with a minor in media advertising. After graduation, she plans on attending graduate school to obtain a masters in speech-language pathology. She hopes to one day work in a private practice or hospital setting, and looks forward to mainly working with young adults and children. Outside of academics, she loves working out, going on long walks, playing with her dog, and spending time with friends and family.

Kristen is a junior at Indiana University studying speech, language and hearing sciences with a minor in psychology. After graduation, she plans on attending graduate school for her masters in speech-language pathology as well as taking additional classes in American Sign Language in hopes of being able to work with children in the Deaf community. She is also involved in Indiana University Dance Marathon as a member of the Hospital Relations Committee and loves running, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Madison is a junior at Indiana University double majoring in speech, language, and hearing sciences and psychology. Upon graduation, Madison plans to attend graduate school to pursue her masters in speech-language pathology. In the future, she hopes to work with children in a hospital setting or in a private practice. Outside of education, Madison enjoys reading and spending time with her friends and family.
